Increased isolation in correctional facilities can have a painfully demoralizing effect. WMP regularly receives requests from chaplains and prisoners, but the COVID-19 pandemic has brought a new urgency. WMP staff member Sylvia C., who handles these requests, shared her observations: “Since about the middle of March, prisons across the country suspended all visitors, including all volunteers. Since many of the religious services were conducted by volunteers, that is no longer available.” Letters from inmates revealed how much they missed the services which they could no longer have. “All that the chaplains have to help the inmates is literature. Chaplains have told me they can use all the literature we can donate.”
"Hi! My name is Sierra and I am currently incarcerated in Wisconsin. I was given a datebook while I was in Brown County jail in Green Bay. It brought some light into every day along with helping me to keep track of the days. I memorized Psalms 23 and 91 and then I taught them to my 9-year-old over the phone and through letters thanks to that little book. Here at the prison, resources are slim and I was wondering if you would send me 2019 and 2020 datebooks. I also wanted to inquire about the other booklets that were mentioned in the back of my datebook. Do you have other booklets available? I want to better myself and strengthen my relationship with God. Thanks again for your time. God bless your day."

"I am a prisoner at LCI in Ocala, Florida. I teach and tell other inmates about Jesus Christ. I was blessed to have received some of your booklets. I feel that 'The Amazing Life of Jesus Christ' is a great study to have along with your Bible as a new babe in Christ or a strong, faithful Christian as well. I also like 'Let's Praise The Lord' to keep steadfast and learn how to worship and praise our Lord Jesus. I am asking if I could maybe get ten of each title above to hand out. I could really use them in spreading the Lord's Word. If you can't I totally understand and I will continue on doing His will with the Bibles as best I can. I gave both of mine to a young mother who finished her sentence and returned to her children, parents, etc. who are not saved. I felt it was more important for her to have them than I. May God bless each of you and your families in your walk with our Lord. Thank you for all you do to teach others of His great love and salvation."

“My name is Manuel. I am currently incarcerated at North Kern State Prison in Delano, California. These times in prison have been so hard and stressful. No words can express how much your 2019 Scripture-Text Datebook has helped and strengthened me. I have gained faith, hope, and confidence through your Datebook. I enjoy reading the daily Scriptures within your Datebook and want to thank you for helping me regain my relationship with Jesus Christ, our Lord, and Savior. I would love to keep learning about our Lord and keep my faith growing with your help. If possible, I would like to receive any, and or all, of your Scripture-by-subject booklets, Scripture booklets, Bible study booklets, Scripture Memory Book, and My Bible Reading Book, to stay on the right path with the Lord, our Savior. Your hard work and effort have really helped save me from losing my faith. Thank you for your support and generosity. I am truly blessed to have found your Scripture-Text Datebook. Any help would be gratefully appreciated. May the Lord bless all of you at World Missionary Press. Thank you in advance.”

"I am writing to request the 2020 Scripture Datebook. One year from now, I’ll be out prison! I still don’t know where I'm going, but I turn it over to God’s hands. I’ve been here since April of 2014. Your devotionals have helped me every year since. If ever I was down, troubled, or discouraged, your choice for a Scripture verse that day was very encouraging. Thank you once again. God bless you."
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the reading materials that you have faithfully donated to our chapel at Everglades Correctional Institution. The Datebooks were well received and our inmates express their special gratitude for your thoughtfulness. Please keep us in mind for future donations and may the Lord bless you in wisdom, prudence, love, and all His amazing grace.”

"I took a box of WMP's Bible Study of John to Honduras. I just heard that 90 of them made it into a women's prison near San Pedro Sula. The women were so excited to have these in their possession. I am headed to Honduras later this fall and am hoping to visit this group."

“I was arrested on February 14, 2019 for my sins. I went to the Bible study at our prison chapel and found your 2019 Datebook. I use it each morning to start my day in prayer. All the verses are so uplifting and bring me closer to Jesus. I often thought I knew Jesus until I finally opened my heart to Him in prison. I thank you so much for the work you do to help save our souls from the pit. My cellmate and I do Bible study together when in our cell. I believe that all your Bible study books would really help us. If you would send me some booklets, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you for all your help! Blessings!”

“Dearest Kindred Spirit, Perhaps you have never spent an entire evening of emptiness starkly staring at the ceiling of a chilly cell block. Perhaps that ceiling never stared right back, terrorizing you until you were driven to cower in shameful fear beneath a haggardly thin blanket. And perhaps, still, that blanket wasn’t enough to muffle the ceiling’s scornful curses at you for every trespass you ever committed; and not just those for which you are currently sentenced. Then you can’t possibly know the level of mercy and grace felt when Chaplain Mike shares the inspirational and hope-filled literature which you have so lovingly gifted our prison chapel. Bless you and thank you for your kindness.”

“I am a volunteer chaplain at Mississippi State Penitentiary in Parchman, MS. Thanks so much for sending me the Datebooks. I received them and passed out about 100 already to the inmates. One inmate was jumping for joy while receiving one because he had been on lockdown for over six months. Therefore, he could not buy stamps to request a Datebook directly from you. Thank you WMP and thank You, Jesus! I would like to request additional booklets to be handed out to the inmates. There are twelve buildings in Unit 29, with an average of 150 inmates per building. The inmates always request additional reading materials from me. Hence this request."
